Services Provided
I provide two different learning services. The first is a twelve-week online survey course on Chinese History, hosted twice a week on Zoom, with each class session running for 1 hour and 20 minutes each. Courses are held in the evening in order to mitigate any conflict with attendee's daytime work schedules. This course overviews a general history of China, beginning with the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 B.C.) and concluding with China in the 21st century.
This course is designed especially for people with little or no knowledge of Chinese History, and people of all ages and geographic regions are welcome to sign up. Also, this survey course is intended to be a low-pressure experience. There are no exams and no assignments. A syllabus will be provided upon your registration to this course with optional readings (though highly encouraged for the sake of having a richer conversation during class). This course only uses two books, both of which are modestly priced on Amazon.com. Each class session costs $20 (equaling $40 per week). Payments should be made every Sunday before the next week of class sessions. These payments must be made through Venmo.
By the end of this course, you should have a firm familiarity with a number of important questions that define the history of China, such as: How many dynasties did China go through? What are the prominent religions of China, and why are they important to China's history? Who was Confucius? Why did the Mongols invade China? How did European colonialism shape China's history, and how is this history used in the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) political narratives today? Who were Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek, and Mao Zedong? What was the May Fourth Movement? What factors sparked the Chinese civil war? How did China become the major political and economic power seen today?
At its core, this course is a mode through which we can have an informed conversation about China as a historical and modern entity. I hope that this course description appeals to you and that, if you sign up, it stimulates further excitement for you to continue exploring different questions pertaining to China.
Please note that this is not a university-accredited course. Information about upcoming twelve-week survey classes are listed below. You may register for upcoming survey courses below as well. For further questions, please contact me through the "Contact" tab at the bottom of the page.
The next twelve-week course is scheduled to begin on: TBD.
Deadline to register for this course is on: TBD.

One-on-One Tutoring Sessions
In addition to hosting a survey course on Chinese History, I also offer one-on-one tutoring sessions on Chinese and Taiwanese History. This service has no strict end date, as it lasts for the extent to which one is interested in studying this subject with me. In these one-on-one sessions, we will meet one or more times a week (to be determined by the two of us beforehand) to discuss themes and ideas from assigned reading material. A prearranged list of readings can be provided, though readings can change if you have specific interests or reading materials that you would like to delve into.
During the pandemic, all meetings will be held on Zoom. If after the conclusion of the pandemic you indicate that you would like to conduct meetings in person (if feasible), you may request this. Because the number of meetings per week, and the length of each meeting will vary from one person to another, there is no fixed cost for this service. To inquire about payment details, please contact me through the "Contact" tab at the bottom of the page.
I welcome anyone who is interested in learning more about any topic relating to Chinese and Taiwanese History, regardless of its chronological or thematic nature. Furthermore, anyone of any age is encouraged to sign up for this service.
