Why Should We Study History?

7/26/2021

Description:
In this short verbal essay, Nakota argues against the reductionist idea that it is important to study history lest it repeat itself, because it treats history like a cyclical phenomenon in which individuals are automatons on a predetermined path. Instead, he asserts that it is important to study history because institutions, laws, and other societal structures are a consequence of historical processes, the efficacy of which should continually be assessed through critical historical thinking.
